IMPHAL November 19: The 40th foundation day of Jawaharlal Nehru University Centre-Imphal, which is an antecedent of Manipur University, was celebrated today at the hall of Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS), Manipur University (MU).
The function was organised by MU in collaboration with the Pangal (Manipuri Muslim) Political Forum (PPF) and the Local Surrounding People of MU (LSPMU), Canchipur in the loving memory of former CM of Manipur Md. Alimuddin.
The function was attended by Vice Chancellor of MU, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma; former minister, O Joy as chief guest and president respectively.
As the guests of honour, the function was also attended by ex-minister and advisor PPF, Md Alauddin; ex-minister Md Abdul Salam; ex-MP, Kim Gangte; Retd. IAS AR Khan; Dean of Students’ Welfare, MU Prof Th Ratan Kumar; president JD(U), Manipur M Tombi; and LSPMU AK Aviram.
Giving his keynote address, spoke person of PPF, MI Khan lauded the development initiatives taken up by Md Alimuddin in the state. He further said that with the active initiative of Md Alimuddin may state institute were inaugurated, such as RIMS in September, 1972, Manipur Public Service Commission in October 1972; JNU November 1972.
Speaking as a chief guest of the function, VC MU Prof H Nandakuma Sharma credited Md Alimuddin for his contribution toward the establishment of Manipur University. He added that the Md Alimuddin laid the foundation stone for JNU Imphal- Centre in November 19, 1972, and his vision to expand higher education in the state has contributed much for the introduction of JNU, Imphal Centre. He further maintained that JNU is a forerunner of MU and now it’s has become one among the well-known central university in the country.
He further said that for the upcoming session MU will open new departments for sociology, forestry and environment studies.
Speaking as a president of the function, ex-minister O Joy said that of Md Alimuddin an important eminent person not only for Muslim community but for entire state. He further lauded the role played by (l) Md Alimuddin in the field of education, development and politics. He maintained that
Md Alimuddin is one of the lion from the state, who roar against the central government to intervene the domination of state govt by the central political parties. He further claimed that Md. Alimuddin is an unsung hero from the state.
