IMPHAL, Nov 23: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was today felicitated at the meeting hall of the Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills.
The felicitation programme was also attended by Chairman, Manipur Tribal Development Corporation T Manga Vaiphei as special guest.
Speaking at the function, thanked the people of the state whose support has made him the Deputy Chief Minister.
He also assured that he will not neglect his duties towards the state and work for its development in his full capacity as the Dy CM.
Meanwhile, MTDC Chairman Manga Vaiphei said that there is not much development in the hill areas of the state, considering its population.
He urged the Tribal Welfare department to concentrate more on the development of the tribal population inhabiting the hills of the state.
The Chairman further dwelt on the need to find an alternative to the vastly practiced jhum cultivation in the hill areas and the negative aspects of the deforestation.
He said, there is the need to find an alternative way of farming for the jhumming cultivation which is widely practiced in the hills of the state as it adversely affects the climate.
He continued on that deforestation has also greatly helped in climate change and said it should be discouraged.
