IED explosion critically injures civilian at Singjamei

IMPHAL, November 22: A powerful Improvise Explosive Device explosion at Singjamei Chingamathak Manipur College Road today at around 6 pm has left one civilian critically injured.

The exact spot of the explosion was at the foothill of Chinga hill, where the 28 Assam Rifles is stationed.

The victim has been identified as Naorem Ibomcha, 35, son of late Kunjo of Singjamei Chinga Mathak. He runs a fish shop near his residence place.

He was rushed to RIMS hospitable with multiple injuries all over his body. 

Meanwhile, condemning the act of planting bomb in crowded residential area, womenfolk of the area staged a demonstration at the blast site. The protesters also demanded shifting of the 28 Assam Rifle post, which is stationed at Chinga Hill.

Since the pass few months several militant outfits base in the state have been attacking security forces and in their attacks besides security personnel, innocent civilians were often left injured or even death.

One of the womenfolk of the area, while condemning the blast termed the act of planting bomb in crowded residential area an act of terrorism and demanded clarification at the earliest from whoever did it.

“It not the first time that such incident happened in the area. The public are made apprehensive due to the frequent blast at the locality,” the protester added.      

Meanwhile, a team of 15 Assam Rifles detected an Improvise Explosive Device (IED) today noon from Slopeland School, Khongjom under Wangjing Police Station.

Police bomb experts retrieved the bomb and disposed it at a nearby empty area.   

The IED bomb was found wrapped inside a polythene bag along with two Chinese hand grenade, two detonators, six batteries of 3 volt and 4 RDX slabs.
