IMPHAL, November 20:The Indigenous Kuki People’s Forum called a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club on the issues of SoO between Kuki militant groups and the government, the Kuki State Demand Committee and the Hill Tribal Land Authority (MLR Act 1960).
The forum has claimed that the present burning issues in the state have been created due to the lack of long term political vision and lack of reasoning of the state government and the central government and failure to find a constructive solution to any issues and instead relying on short term solution.
Forum president RR Chothe told the media persons that the Kuki ethnic community has neither tried to disintegrate Manipur, nor change the boundaries of the hills of the state.
He said the Kukis have always believed in the maxim ‘what is others is theirs and what is ours is ours’.
Speaking on the Suspension of Operation between Kuki militants and the state government and central government which will expire on November 22, the president has lamented that the government authorities has remained silent.
He has further demanded a clarification on the state Dy Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio on his statement that the state government is only participating as a felicitator and is not directly involved in the SoO with Kuki militants and the Naga peace talk between Naga outfits and the Central government.
Meanwhile, speaking at the press conference, spokesperson LeinGangte said the Suspension of Operation between the Kuki militants and the state government and central government will expire on November 22; however there has been no initiative from the government authorities regarding the extension of the SoO, which is hard to understand.
He has further urged the government to take the necessary initiative on the issue at the earliest.
The Indigenous Kuki People’s Forum (IKPF) supports the ongoing `public blockade` by the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC).
