Left leader denied Sharmila meet

IMPHAL, November 3: The state Chief Secretary has denied central committee member and north east region in-charge of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Shankar Das from meeting hunger striker Sharmila.  

Speaking with media persons at a press meet at Marxism Learning Centre, RIMS road, Shankar Das said that he is here in Manipur to meet hunger striker Sharmila and also to get a feel of ground reality regarding the present political and social scenario of the state.  

He further that the CPI (ML) strongly condemned the act of denying permission to meet Sharmila by the Chief Secretary, Manipur saying that CPI (ML) is anti-national.

Since October 19 he has been trying to seek permission from the state home department to meet Sharmila on November 3, but the rejection came only yesterday. Last year also he was denied permission to meet Sharmila, he said.

CPI (ML) demands resignation from the Chief Secretary and urges the state to take immediate action against the Chief Secretary, he said.

He further continued that CPI (ML) supports the cause of NE people to repeal AFSPA. So, as a move in support of Sharmila’s demand for repeal of AFSPA, CPI (ML) will launch massive campaigns in 19 states of the country.      

The UPA government by letting foreign investors to do business in Indian soil now move under foreign pressure. By selling away our lands, national resources, jungles to foreign people and letting us depend on foreign made products. Now they have a different meaning of national and antinational, he said.

From their definition we may be anti-national, but we are fighting for a good cause for the people especially for North East people, he continued.

The AFSPA is enforced in the whole north east region and we are planning on organizing a gathering with all the struggling forces, he informed.

S Shyamsunder, state secretary of CPI (ML), condemning the denial of a CPI (ML) leader to meet Sharmila, said that such act in a democracy has turn the meaning of democracy into something like we are living in a land where martial law or a dictator rules.

He also added that CPI (ML) supports the cause for the implementation of Inner line permit in the state and they will join hand with other civil organizations as well as the people in their demand for the implementation of ILP in the state.
