IMPHAL, November 7: The Manipur Library Association, MALA will be observing the National Library week-2012, under the theme “Library Service for Universal Peace and Understanding” in joint collaboration with a number of government agencies, institutions, literary and voluntary organizations across the state starting November 14.
A statement of the MALA said that the year being the silver jubilee year of the association, the programs to be carried out will be related with the yearlong programs of the same including GC Tongbra memorial lecture.
The week will be inaugurated at the premises of the State Central Library, Imphal, under the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur on November 14 by MLA Wangkhei Y Erabot, who introduced the Manipur public libraries act, 1988 on the floor of the then House of Assembly while he was the Minister of Education, it said.
Further according to the release, the function will be presided over by Padmashree Dr M Kirti Singh while the GC Tongbra memorial lecture would be delivered by renowned journalist K Madhumangol Singh, on the theme “Manipurda anganba matamgi journalism amadi GC Tongbra”.
The celebration would carry out events such as book review, painting competition and slogan competition among school and college students and library awareness programs etc, it said.
In the press release, the association further encourages the organizers to launch a number of innovative programs to promote library service and reading habit while observing the library week.
They further said that different libraries attached with different institutions and organizations at various levels, literary and organizations, publishers, book distributors, youth clubs, voluntary organizations particularly voluntary libraries of the state benefited by the Ram Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, RRRLF should come forward in carrying out innovative programs.
