Manipur pavilion showcases typical Manipuri Handloom & Handicraft

NEW DELHI, November 20 (MIC): Rhythmic and colourful dances drawing from hills and valley of Manipur with fashion show on Manipuri fabrics enthralled the house packed audience at Hamsadhwani Theatre, Pragati Maidan here this evening on the occasion of Manipur Day Celebration at the 32nd India International Trade Fair, 2012.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Manipur Commerce and Industry Minister Govindas Konthoujam highlighted on Manipur`s rich cultural heritage, handloom and handicraft, and the contribution of sports in the international arena. He described Manipur as the Gateway of South East Countries. As agreed in between India and Myanmar, the Mandalay –Imphal bus service would start soon, he added. He invited the tourists to visit Manipur and enjoy the 10-day Sangai Festival commencing from November 21 to 30 at Imphal and various places of Manipur. He stated, “Manipur has excellent climate, good air connectivity and is a beautiful place, and it is described as ‘a little paradise on earth’.”

In his speech, PHED Minister I Hemochandra informed, “Manipur is the shining state in the East, though it is small state. As a tourist destination, Manipur is an ideal place”. He invited the tourists to see the scenic beauties and cultural heritages of Manipur. His speech in both English and Hindi targeted the large audience.

Manipur Pavilion at Indian International Trade Fair (IITF) 2012 at Pragati Maidan here showcased State’s typical handloom and handicrafts products produced by the co-operative societies and individual entrepreneurs representing from all nine districts of Manipur.

Manipur Pavilion in the ongoing India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan here drew a large crowd this year to buy unique Manipuri handloom and handicrafts items. Twenty eight Co-operative Societies and individuals from different parts of Manipur were taking part in the two-week long International Fair organized by the India Trade Promotion Organisation commencing from November 14 annually.

Apart from the private participants, the products of three Government organizations namely Sericulture Department, Manipur Development Society and Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation were also displayed in the Manipur Pavilion.
