IMPHAL, November 5: Amidst various civil organizations demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the state fearing that outsiders’ population might shrink the indigenous population, a large number of non-Manipuri people showed up at SDO Office, Imphal East for the enrolment in the state electoral rolls.
The non-Manipuris who had come to SDO office, Imphal East for their physical verification needed in the enrolment process of electoral roll, were from 15 Assembly Constituency of Wangkhei.
The today’s hearing at the SDO office was for inclusion, detection, correction and shifting electoral roll in their respective electoral roll.
In the meantime, a team of the Co-ordination Committee on Inner Line Permit led by its convenor Sapamcha Jadumani showed up.
Speaking to media persons, Sapamcha Jadumani said that during their recent survey at Jiribam, they have found out that out of 28,000 voters, 20,000 voters are found to be illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Somehow these illegal immigrants also possess their identity proof like driving licence, affidavit provided by the state government.
He appealed the officials and staffs involved in the verification process to conduct the process sincerely and not to include those who cannot show their domicile certificate and strongly urged the oath commissioners not to sell affidavit or proof documents to outsiders for some petty cash.
He further urged all the political parties and political advisors, agents etc not to pressurize the officials in favour of the non-locals during enrolment process.
It may be mention here that today’s hearing was conducted by CEO Manipur under the instruction of Election Commission of India to conduct a special electoral revision. The today’s hearing was the continuation of the earlier which was held during October one to 31.
