IMPHAL, November 29: Rabi Seeds Distribution Program under Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojna, RKVJ was held today by District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West at Western Sporting Club, WSC, Ngairangbam.
The function was attended by Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir, president, WSC, Ngairangbam, L Kumar Singh, Adhyaksha, Imphal west Zilla Parishad Ch Bijenti Devi, Pradhan Ngairangbam Gram Panchayat Sinam (o) Indubala Devi and social worker, Sapam Ranjan Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Md Abdul Nasir said farmers of the state must try to produce plenty of food crops so that the people of the state do not have to depend on other states.
He appealed NGOs, farmers and farmers club to send an application to Agriculture Department before December to get the benefits of the free distribution of Rabi crops.
The Minister also appealed the farmers for co-operation with the government in bringing ‘Green Revolution in the State’.
Deputy Director Agriculture, Ph Rajendra said the flood like situation this year has affected the production of food crops and that distribution of the Rabi seeds are mainly to help the farmers cope with the low production.
He also said that the department will further point out the areas where Rabi seeds are distributed, which will help the department in collecting seeds from the farmers and be used in the next year.
He also further appealed the farmers to use bio- pesticide instead of chemical pesticide because this will help the people of the State to live a healthy life.
