IMPHAL, Nov 22 (NNN): The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) Thursday warned all the hair salons in Manipur to stop taking charges for hair cutting and shaving as per rates fixed by the All Manipur Barbers’ Association by November 25 and urged them to implement the rates fixed by the Deputy Labour Commissioner, Manipur.
As per the rates of hair salons fixed by the state Deputy Labour Commissioner, hair cutting charge should be Rs 20, Rs 50 for hair dying, Rs 20 for head message, Rs 40 for full body message, Rs 20 for special shaving, Rs 20 for full head shaving and Rs 15 each for hair washing and shampooing, said AMSU secretary general, Ningthoujam Dipanjit.
On the contrary, the salons in the state are now implementing the high rates fixed by All Manipur Barbers’ Association, he said. The association charges Rs 30 for hair cutting, Rs 60 for hair dying, Rs 20 for special shaving against the rates fixed by the government, he said and described such high charges of saloons as a policy absolutely against the people.
He also admitted that AMSU is well aware about the present problem confronted by labourers in the state owing to the price rise in essential commodities but the current rates of hair saloons fixed by the barber association is quite high for the people.
Therefore, all the saloons should implement the rates fixed by the Government by November 25 and only 50 percent charges should be taken from students on production of their identity cards to the barbers, he further added.
AMSU will carry out a drive from November 26 onwards to detect whether the Government rates are implemented by the salons, he said and those salons which are found charging the rates fixed by the barber association will be shut down.
The AMSU secretary general Dipanjit also sought support from All Manipur Barbers’ Association, the public and the Trade Union in its drive to be launched against these salons.
