Shantikumar likely to retain post

IMPHAL, November 13: The present incumbent Sh Shantikumar Sharma is likely to retain the post of BJP state unit President, according to reliable party sources here.

Reports said, the two member delegation of the state BJP unit who went to New Delhi to express the wishes of the state party leaders have returned in Imphal after meeting central leaders.

The two delegates were Vice-President Salam Inohal Singh and Secretary Yanglet Haokip.

The two state leaders had conferred with BJP National Returning Officer PC Gehlot and National General Secretary Ram Lal and had submitted the resolution of the state unit meeting of November 7.

The resolution had recommended the name of the present state party chief Shantikumar Sharma as attested by 73 councillors of the state electoral college, the sources said.

According to Article 17 sub-clause 4 of the BJP constitution, it is mandatory for a presidential candidate to be an active member of the party for at least 3 terms of three-year tenure.
