IMPHAL, November 20: The public blockade called by the Kuki State Demand Committee has left Imphal-Moreh Road totally cut off for the past three days with vehicles remaining off the road.
Speaking to media persons today at one of the places where the agitation was in full swing, chairman of Tengnoupal Block, Kuki State Demand Committee, Mang Haokip said that what they are demanding to the state and the centre government is their genuine and indigenous right inside the Indian Constitution.
“It’s been too long that different Kuki militant groups, under Suspension of Operation since 2005, waited for the peace talk or political dialogues to begin but till today the issue has been neglected by the government by playing dirty tactics.
This treatment is unbearable and also an act of discrimination towards the Kuki people of the state,” he further said.
He further appealed to all the vehicle owners and drivers’ associations of the Imphal-Moreh road to cooperate with them so that no untoward incident happens during the blockade.
Meanwhile, a blockade supporter identified as Nemkim, 45, wife of Manglen of Tuisemjang was hit by a vehicle at Gwaltabi under Yangangpoki Police Station leaving her wounded.
The incident happened this morning at around 11, when the blockade supporters tried to stop the civilian vehicles which were coming along the road escorted by a team of Litan Police, said Bungpi Area Women’s Union president, Chongboi, speaking with media persons.
She further said that they condemn the police’s action of hampering the blockade by letting the civilian vehicles pass the road. She also said that they will intensify their agitation and government should take full responsibility of any untoward incident.
