IMPHAL, November 7: The Mapithel Dam Multipurpose Project Displaced Villages Committee convened a press meet at Manipur Press Club clarifying on a claim of the Mapithel Dam Affected Village Organization that the two villages of Chadong and Lamlai Khunou are not affected by the dam.
Speaking to media persons, Chadong village chief James Kasar today lamented that MDAVO has always been interfering whenever it comes to rehabilitation and resettlement of the two villages.
He said that altogether 11 villages are affected by the Dam out of which five will be partly submerged while the remaining six will be fully submerged.
He continued that Chadong and Lamlai Khunou belong to the later category. He continued that out of the 11 villages affected nine have already been compensated while the two villages are yet to receive the Rehabilitation and Resettlement package.
Meanwhile, MDMPDVC information & publicity secretary Mathoitmi Jajo appealed the government for a police outpost in the area as there have been several violent incidents in the area in the past.
He further expressed that the two villages are willing to shift if the concerned authorities provide the Rehabilitation and Resettlement package.
