IMPHAL, Nov 14: The vice-president of BJP Manipur State unit S ibohal has clarified today that the President of the unit will be selected by consensus according to the wishes of the Party high command. He however added that if certain individuals are adamant on contesting for the post elections would be held. S Ibohal had recently arrived in Imphal after meeting central leaders at New Delhi along with Yanglet Haokip (Chief Election Officer of state unit). Briefing newsmen Ibohal said that according to the National Executive Council meeting held on September 24 last, the protocol for former presidents to contest for another term was given the green signal and the Party Constitution was amended.
It may be mentioned here that the present President Sh Shantikumar is eligible for contesting again as per amendment. Here, S Ibohal had mentioned that the BJP high command wishes for selecting a consensus individual and avoid elections if possible.
