`UPA`s neo liberal policies harming the interest of the poor`

IMPHAL, November 20:The All India Trade Union Congress, AITUC today conducted its 14th State conference at the THAU Hall.

CPI, Manipur State Unit leader Dr M Nara, AITUC, deputy general secretary, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Manipur E Tomba Singh as presidium members.

Addressing the conference, Dr M Nara dwelt on the importance of trade unions in order to bring an equal platform for all in the society.

He elaborated that the AITUC was formed in 1920 with freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai as president while India’s first Prime Minister JawaharLal Nehru and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had also remained presidents of the union.

He lamented that the present UPA government under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh leaning towards the neo liberal policies has provided more emphasis on corporate houses in the country.

Dr M Nara also observed that in the present era, all works which once required manual labours can be done with machines and computers, which has left the labourers without work.

Under the present system, the rich has got richer while the poor has only got poorer.

He further opined that the present system has infringed on all trade union laws of the country.

He also expressed that the employees in the private companies are underpaid which has brought disturb the tranquillity of the society.

He further charged that the present chaos in the country is because of the UPA government turning to the neo liberal policies of the imperialist countries of the west.

Liberalization, globalisation, privatisation have only brought miseries, he continued.

In order to bring a change in the society, there is a need to apply the trade law and revive and strengthened the trade unions, he said.

He further expressed the need to spread awareness on the trade union laws. Individual improvement alone cannot improve a society but it should be coupled with the trade movement.

He further elaborated on the importance of the trade union movement and said it is a world movement.
