IMPHAL, November 6: The Village Authority election for the most important , oldest and pioneer locality of Lamka was held at Hiangtam, Lamka without any hindrance today. The election took place despite the boycott imposed by various frontal organizations of chiefs from different tribal villages of Manipur.
The elected individuals are G Haukhanmang,Lianchinkhup Guite, Saimchin Khup, Suan Haujel, Munga Samte, D John,T Singneng, T Zakung, V Siamnunlian, D Lianthansang and D Zakung.
It may be recalled that the election was in the news as many chiefs had reservation and suspicion on the intention of the State government for holding an election without taking them into confidence.
Many chiefs are bent on believing that the institution of chieftainship among the tribal’s of Manipur are pressing for amendment of the Village Authority Act by the Government before holding such an election.
