IMPHAL, December 2: A combined team of CDO Imphal East and 28 Assam Rifles recovered a huge amount of arms and ammunitions during a search operation at Uran Chiru village under Irilbung Police Station Imphal East yesterday.
The recovered arms and ammunitions were displayed before media persons today at the office chamber of Additional SP of Imphal East, M Rajen Singh.
Briefing media persons, the Additional Superintendent of Police said that yesterday at around 11:45 am on receiving reliable information about the presence of some valley based armed UG suspects in and around Uran Chiru village area, a combined team of CDO Imphal East and 28 AR under his supervision and assisted by Major Gaurav Bhardhawaj rushed to the area.
“When the team was about to reach the village some 300 meters away they spotted some three to four unknown persons near the Uran Chiru village waiting shed fleeing towards the hills on seeing the team approaching,” he said.
“The combined team chased the fleeing unknown persons and searched the entire area but failed to trace them however on searching the area for around one and half hour, the combined team recovered huge amount of arms and ammunitions concealed in three polythene bags from the thick bushes,” he said.
The recovered arms and ammunition are two numbers of Chinese made carbines along with magazines, two numbers of Chinese made hand grenades with detonators, six numbers of landmine bombs, four numbers of radio sets, 85 numbers of 7.62 mm live ammunitions, 24 numbers of AK rifle live ammunitions, 9 numbers of M-20 pistol live ammunitions, 5 numbers of M-16 rifle live ammunitions and one magazine, one electric detonator and two Chinese made detonators.
