Dwijamani inquiry begins

IMPHAL, December 27: The three member inquiry team formed regarding the death of Thangjam Dwijamani, correspondent of Prime news channel and stringer for DDK has started its first initial inquiry into the incident and manner of his death on December 24 while covering a faceoff between police and bandh supporters. The deceased journalist was covering the protest at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai when public ire against a police team leading to damaging the police vehicle and subsequent torching led the police to fire tear gas shells and then, live bullets.

The three member inquiry team comprising of A. Mobi, President of the All Manipur Working Journalist`s Union, L M Khaute Additional Director General of Police and Dr J Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary Home Department visited the site of the incident on Decemeber 24. They examined the road approaching from Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai towards Cheiraoching, examing the site where Th Dwijamani was shot to death and also the area where the Tata truck vehicle of the Lamphel Police was burnt down by bandh supporters. The three member inquiry team was accompanied by the officer in charge of Lamphel Police station and Imphal police station.
