Engineers kidnapped

IMPHAL, Dec 16: Two engineers who work for Brahmaputra Construction limited were alleged held captive for monetary demands by suspected United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) cadres.

The two engineers have been identified as Manoranjan Hajari, 24, a resident of Dibrugarh in Assam and Amrit Gogoi, 24, a resident of Jorhat in Assam.

They were presently working under the North Frontier Railways.

According to the police, the two were allegedly kidnapped from Kaimai along Imphal-Jiribam Road on NH-37 under Nungba Police Station on December 6 at around 10:30 am by suspected UTLA cadres, when the two were coming on a Bolero jeep.

The two were released by their captors only yesterday at around 5:30 pm at Kaimai area, police said.

“We have received information that the two engineers are at Silchar now. However, as we have missed them, we could not confirm whether they have paid or not to their captors for their safe release,” a police official said.  

Nungba Police has taken up a suo moto case in regard to the incident, the official added.
