IMPHAL, December 18: The Kuki Inpi Manipur is organizing a two days Kuiki Chiefs’ Conference on 18-19 December at the Conference Hall of Kuki Christian Church (KCC), Deulahland, Imphal.
The first day of the conference was attended by ex-MLA, Holkhomang Haokip, secretary KCC (Administrative) Reverend Dr T Lunkim, president KIM, Thangsei Haokip, in the morning session.
Speaking to media persons on the side line of the function, secretary Information and Publicity, KIM, DM Touthang said that chiefs and villagers from various districts of the state attended the conference.
He continued, “The opening day of the conference is all about the chieftainship in the hill areas of Manipur and to deliberate about the merits and demerits of various initiatives implemented by the government for the development and welfare in the village areas”.
“On 19 December, we will work towards bringing a resolution”, he told the media persons.
He further said that some of the hill districts areas are still lagging behind in the development level and schemes for development and welfare as sanctioned by the government has not been implemented properly by the chiefs of the villages with the funds being misused.
“Some chiefs of the villages are settled in Imphal with their family and neglecting development works of the village and are using public funds as their own money”, he continued.
When villagers further inquired to the Government to sanction for the development of the village they were informed that the funds were already sanctioned and in other cases. Some funds are not sanctioned at all since there were no follow up or due to the absence of the chief,” he said.
