IMPHAL, December 11: The Under Secretary of Municipal Area Housing and Development (MAHUD), on Tuesday has approved to convene a special meeting for consideration of no confidence moved against Imphal Municipal Council, chairperson N Raghumani, by eleven councillors, said a source.
Further according to the source, an order released by Under Secretary, H Balkhrisna has officially appointed the vice-chairperson of Imphal to preside over the proposed special meeting under section 31 (2) of the Manipur Municipalties Act, 1994 and its amendment, 2005.
However, the date of the meeting was not fixed.
It may be recalled that on November 5, altogether eleven councillors out of the total twenty seven has submitted a no-confidence motion to the Executive Officer of the IMC, citing ineffective administration and abuse of power by the leader of the council.
Subsequently, the eleven councillors had projected Aribam Nimai Sharma, councillor of ward number 18 as their representative for the chair.
Meanwhile, reliable sources said informed that the no confidence motion was put on hold for more than a month owing to the absence of the Chief Minister of Manipur, who also holds the portfolio of MAHUD.
