IMPHAL, December 9: As observed in other parts of the country by the Congress, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today observed the 66th birthday of AICC president Sonia Gandhi today at the Congress Bhavan.
Speaking at the observation, MPCC president Gaikhangam expressed that AICC president, Sonia Gandhi has contributed and sacrificed a lot for the integrity of the country.
Sonia Gandhi who has acted as the guiding light for the Congress is also an exemplary leader, he continued.
The MPCC president continued that the party workers and members should follow in the footsteps of Sonia Gandhi and try to imbibe her principles and work towards realising her dream for a developed country.
State Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh has appealed to all to pray for the party president’s longevity.
He continued, Sonia Gandhi’s dream to bring in a ‘New India’ where the people live in peace and harmony.
Under the abled leadership of the AICC president, India is marching strongly towards development, he said.
The Congress workers and members will leave no stone unturned in order to realise Sonia Gandhi’s dream for a ‘New India’.
Meanwhile, later in the evening, the MPCC led by its president Gaikhangam handed over 10 bags of rice, one tin of edible oil, a bag of potatoes, a bag of onions and another bag of dal to the Khongnang Devi Old Aged Home at Nongmeibung.
Speaking on the occasion, Social Welfare Minister, Ak Mirabai said that the edible items have been handed over to old age home in commemoration of the AICC president 66th birthday.
The AICC president is exemplary for her sacrifices for the welfare and development of the country, she said.
Meanwhile, the Khurai Assembly Youth Congress and Wangkhei Assembly Youth Congress under the guidance of 10 union distributed 5kg each of rice to 250 woman vendors of Lamlong market in connection with the birthday observation of AICC president Sonia Gandhi today at Lamlong Keithel.
The rice was distributed as acknowledgement of their enormous contribution to the society.
The occasion was attended by vice president of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress, Y Rohoso, general secretary of MPYC, L Chitrasen, president of Khurai Youth Congress Committee, Ng Shasimita and president of Wangkhei Youth Congress Committee, Lukram Vikram.
Meanwhile, Indian Youth Congress, Yaishkul Kendra also distributed eatables items including rice to Environment and Economics Management Association (EEMA) home at Keikhu today in relation with the observation of the 66th birth anniversary of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
During the occasion, president of Indian Youth Congress Yaiskul Kendra, Sapam Peterson said as a part of the birthday celebration of Sonia Gandhi and in connection with the occasion of Mahila Samman Diwas, the items were distributed as aid to EEMA.
On the other hand, Wangkhei Assembly Youth Congress under Wangkhei Kendra distributed mementos and shawls to 65 female teachers of the constituency who are above 55 years.
