IMPHAL, December 5: The Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) on Wednesday boasted of being the most powerful regional political party in Manipur and laid emphasis on solving unemployment problem confronting in the state.
“Other regional parties had failed to win any seat in the last 10th state assembly elections but the MSCP won five sits in this election and hence the party has become the strongest regional party in Manipur”, MLA K Thamarjit said while speaking on the occasion of 15th Foundation Day of MSCP which was observed at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal.
MSCP MLA Thamarjit further accused the state Government of misappropriating developmental fund and schemes sanctioned by the Central Government to the state.
Referring to the recent incident that took place at the venue of Sangai Festival 2012 where Agriculture minister Md Abdul Nasir beat up a Congress member, Thamarjit said MSCP will urge the Chief Minister to take legal action against Nasir.
He added the party has now started focusing on solving unemployment problem in Manipur and it has also adopted three resolutions.
The three resolutions include development of infrastructure in order to provide home jobs to the youth, protection of the state integrity and remove the common phrase “Ching-Tam” (hill-valley) from day today language, and making maximum effort towards winning large number of sits in the next general election.
The function presided by MSCP President Y Mangi was also attended by the party’s MLAs and leaders. MSCP was established on December 5, 1997. It had swept two Manipur assembly elections and was in power till the early part of 2002.
