IMPHAL, December 10: Even though the state Home Minister Gaikhangam has been talking about disciplining the state police force into a more people friendly force, there have been several incidents which bemoan otherwise.

A group of reporters today submitted a written complaint to the All Manipur Working Journalist Union president A Mobi against an alleged misconduct committed by a police Sub Inspector towards a group of reporters numbering around 4 to 6.

The incident happened this morning at the gate of Ireibak daily office at Palace Compound, when a group of reporters who came to cover a programme at Lamyanba Sanglen (the adjoining building to Ireibak office) and as well as to cover Rahul Gandhi’s  programme at Hapta Kangjeibung were asked to go behind the gates by a Sub Inspector.

The reporters went inside and identified themselves as reporters who are waiting for the programmes to begin, following which the Sub Inspector started using abusive languages to the reporters, the complaint said.

During the process, a senior reporter of ‘Poknapham,’ unhappy over the Sub Inspector’s rude behaviour, had a confrontation with the Sub Inspector, who in return started pushing the reporter in a harshly manner.

The SI was later seen standing near a group of people who were sitting infront of the All India Radio office, which is just a few feet away from the Ireibak office.

He however did not ask them to go in.

Those people were sent in only when a senior officer appeared at the scene.

Regarding the incident the group of journalist who were present at the time of the incident have submitted a written complaint to the AMWJU president to look into the matter.
