IMPHAL, December 18: Two years after a book rack collapsed during the 19th Imphal Book Fair in December 2010, a stall collapsed today at the 21st Imphal Book Fair.
The incident was however hushed up by the organizers by shielding the stall from public view soon after it collapse.
The book fair is being organized by the State Central Library Imphal in collaboration with the Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation Kolkata and was inaugurated on December 15.
The book stall of the Nivedita a Guwahati based book firm collapsed today at around 1:40pm this afternoon.
An owner of one of the nearby stalls while confirming the collapsing of the stall said the arrangement of the organizers is not upto mark.
On condition of anonymity, the stall owner said he has been enthusiastically participating the fair which comes once in a year, but the arrangement is not up to mark.
The stall which collapse had many books which are of great value and since the re-enactment of the stall will take another two three days, it would be a loss for both the stall owners and the visitors.
While lamenting that the organizers could have been better prepared, he also added that the electric supply at the venue has never been regular.
He further expressed his wish that as the book fair is related to education, and also firms from outside have been taking part in it, it should be managed properly.
