Students` bodies appeals to maintain peace and harmony

IMPHAL, December 24: Addressing a joint press conference at the office of DESAM, student organizations came together to condemn the Chandel incident of December 18, calling upon the state government to book the culprit and give punishment as per the law of the land. Speaking at the media briefing, Majabung Gangmei, Speaker of ATSUM said that in the present situation, the people of hill and valley should maintain peace and harmony.

Appealing to all the communities not to spread rumours that would hurt the sentiments of the people, he further urged people to cooperate for the safe passage of the hill people who had come to Imphal for Christmas marketing in Imphal.

Advisor DESAM LC Santosh said that the accused in the Chandel incidemt, Lt. Col. Livingstone Anal should be punished and added that though the general strike demanding the arrest and punishment of the culprit is reasonable, it should not however lead to communal strife.

Pamreiso Raiping, President TKLI while condemning the Dec 18 incident urged the government to immediately nab the culprit and punish him according to the law of the land. “In this volatile situation the people are appealed to refrain from violence at the larger interest of public. People are facing great hardship due to the bandh and the state government is appealed to do the needful so that people can reach home and enjoy Christmas,” Raiping said, adding that TKLI shared the grief of the bereaved family of the journalist who was shot dead.

President Southern Tangkhul Student Union Shimthar Jajo, vice president KSA, general secretary Tribal Youth Council Boicha Vaiphei also attended the press meet.
