Two men involved in the murder of Memchoubi arrested

IMPHAL, December 22: Two men involved in the alleged murder case of a woman near Langol Games Village IV have been arrested by police on November 30 morning.

The accused included the son of the second wife, it may be mentioned here that the deceased is the third wife of one N Nilbir.

Briefing media persons regarding the incident, Officer in Charge of  Lamphel Police, Inspector N Ingocha said that on November 30 at around 7.30 am near Langol Game Village zone IV, he  conducted an investigation immediately regarding the incident and filed a suo moto case following the report that a woman was found dead with obvious signs of murder. The dead body was disposed as unclaimed at Minuthong on December 4. Later, on December 7, the family member identified the disposed body as Soibam Memchoubi alias Mema ,48 ,wife of N Nilbir of Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai. Memchoubi was Nilbir’s third wife. Achambam Memcha, Nilbir’s divorced first wife who is from Oinam bazaar and has two sons and two daughters. The second wife was Nignthoujam Ningol Prabha alias Mema of Wangoo Laingoubi Turel Wangma and  they had a son named Ibohal aged about 38 who lived with his father. She was also divorced. He took all the responsibilities for his step mother’s (Memchoubi) daughter’s marriage.

Through the call record of her mobile phone numbers, a police team led by Lamphel OC, N Ingocha along with Imphal West and Bishnupur commandos arrested a man involved in the murder from a house located at Toubul Awang Leikai on December 20 at around 2 a.m. The arrested person has been identified as Ratan, 22 alias Yokkhatpa s/o late Lokera. He is an ex-cadre of UNLF and had surrendered to Assam Rifles at Tengnoupal in 2007. Two mobile phones, one EVD player and a surrenderee I- Card were recovered from his possession. Ibohal , Nilbir’s second wife’s (Praba)  son was arrested from a rented house at Kwakeithel where he stayed on December 20 following  Ratan’s disclosure.

Tongbram Rajen, 28, of Langol Ningthou and Thoisu of Wangoo involved in the murder are former cadres of PREPAK and had  surrendered to Assam Rifles at Tengnoupal. Ibohal’s mother Praba and her friend Pangollei of Nongmaikhong plotted to murder Memchoubi and for that Praba arranged a meeting  between Rajesh and Ibohal to finish the deal.  Ibohal gave Rs. 1,80,000 to Rajesh to murder  his step-mother out of which  Ratan got Rs. 50,000 for killing  Memchoubi. A Tata Magic (MN-OIW/0417) and a Kinetic Honda (MNOJ-6679) which were used for transportation of guns and money have been recovered. Ratan and Ibohal were produced at the court and remanded to police custody for 10 days.
