IMPHAL December 30: The United People’s Front (UPF) Manipur will organise the 7th mega marathon on February 17, 2013 at 7am from the main stadium at Khuman Lampak under the guidance of the Athletic Association, Manipur.
Addressing media persons in a press meet at its office, BM Yaima Shah, President of UPF said that the mega marathon was started from 2007 with an aim to make the youth healthier and the society stronger. The marathon race this time will be in two categories with the theme “Run for nation, run for mega marathon”.
He further informed that a committee has been made for the marathon with UPF president as chairman with 11 sub committees under it. A patron member comprising of 10 people has also been put into place.
He further said that the marathon will be held for men and women in the open category. The first three winners of the race will be awarded Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively and Rs 2000 each will be awarded from 4th position upto 15th position of the race. All the participants will be awarded certificates. UPF will send written letters to concerned authorities so that participants from northeast can take part in the race. The UPF has also appealed to the state government and concerned departments to support the race.
