1 in border shoot-out still unidentified

IMPHAL, Jan 28: The dead body one of the four militant suspects who were killed during a reported gun battle between the 39 Assam Rifles and a militant group on January 21 morning near the international border at L Kanan village, Churachandpur is yet to be identified. The three others have already been identified.

The IO of the case has informed that in case the body is not identified by January 30, then it will be handed over to the Imphal Municipal Council to be disposed off. It may be mentioned that the proscribed UNLF had already issued a press note claiming that the four dead were deserters and had also provided their names.

It is believed that the dead body could be that of Kumabam Sindamba alias Das, son of K Babu of Moirang Kuman Leikai.

Meanwhile, a woman who died at the RIMS after she was shifted from near Friend’s Talkies, Paona Bazar where she was found in an unconscious state around 5pm of January 25 has been identified as one Leichonbam (o) Thambal (48), wife of Kesho of Khumbong Awang Leikai. The dead body has been handed over to the family members after post mortem at RIMS.
