IMPHAL, January 24: The 6th Death anniversary commemoration of Chingsubam Akaba, also known as Oja Akaba was held today at Wakha Village, Nongmaiching Hill range. Floral tribute was also paid to his statue by the dignitaries, his family members, relatives and others. The commemoration was attended by Minister Agri& fisheries Md Abdul Nasir, Parliamentary secy., MOBC & SC. & Tech Md Amin Shah, Director Settlement & Land Records, DIPR Wangkheimayum Rajen MCS and Trustee Member LUCANIL and Dy Director Agriculture Deptt. Ph Rajendra along with other invitees.
The commemoration function was jointly organized by Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup (LUCANIL) and Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL).
A rest house was also inaugurated by the chief guest of the function, Md Abdul Nasir.
Minister Md Abdul Nasir said the Oja Akaba was a true nationalist. He elaborated that without him the surrender of Kangla Fort to the public of Manipur might have been only a dream.He further said that he would extend all possible help in making Wakha village a model village jointly with the Minor Irrigation (MI) and Command Area Development Authority (CADA).
N Tomba, Advisor of the All Manipur Private School Welfare Association (AMPSWA) announced that the AMPSWA will provide free education to 2 children each from all different communities around the Wakha village who are taking on the role of being caretakers of the burial site of Oja Aka. Awards were also distributed to Irom Nilakamol from Kamong Namol and HB Thumthung Anal from Chandel Riverlin for their contribution to preserve ancient script and culture.
