IMPHAL, January 7: The 8th Apex Craft Bazar 2013 organized by the Manipur Apex Handloom Weaver and Handicrafts Artisan’s Ltd. was inaugurated today at Naharol Sintha Kanglup Ground complex at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi, Imphal.
L Ojit Singh, Business Manager of the Apex Handloom weavers’ body in his address said that the 7th Apex Craft Bazaar held at Tripura proved to be a success for Manipur handloom and handicraft products as the public of Tripura had accepted it with enthusiasm.
Handloom and handicraft product from different parts of Manipur were displayed
A total of 155 stalls from different parts of the state are participating in the present craft bazaar which will continue for 10 days with various handloom and handicraft products from different parts of Manipur being displayed.
Speaking during the inaugural function, V Tualthang Additional Director of Commerce and Industries said that winter is often suitable for the sale of handloom products and that huge profits are expected from the ongoing craft bazaar.
O Nabakeshwor Singh, Principal Secretary, Commerce and Industry said that artisans of handloom and handicraft products are barely able to sustain themselves and their households because of limited market.
Pointing out that the home furnishing handicrafts has a larger market and demand, he call upon artisans and craftsmen to look into product diversification.
