IMPHAL, January 19: A series of related events has followed in different parts of Manipur in the context of claims and counter claims over `fake surrender programs`. Yesterday, locals of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai had nabbed a woman for allegedly trying to lure in youths to participate in a surrender program of the 5/9 Gorkha Regiment.
It may be mentioned that yesterday evening, the said woman identified as Haorungbam Chitra (60) wife of (L) Ibopishak Singh of Khurai Chingamgbam Leikai was nabbed by the locals while she was accompanying her son H Surchandra @kabui @nanao and trying to convince one youth to participate in the surrender program. When H Chitra Devi was surrounded by the locals, her son managed to flee from the scene. She was however besieged by the locals for interrogation of the background story.
Following up the incident today, the son H Surchandra Singh @Kabui @Nanao aged about 30, said to be a former cadre of one underground outfit was nabbed by the locals of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai. The locals also found the wall poster of the surrender program and a temporary Identification Card issued by the 5/9 GR. The locals of Khurai Chingamgbam Leikai had also kept H. Chitra in their custody till 3.30 pm when Porompat police rushed in and picked up the duo around 3:30pm. Following this, an angry mob dismantled the house of the mother-son after the police left. It is learnt that the mother was later released by the Porompat police after a formal interrogation.
