IMPHAL, January 3: A head constable in the Manipur Police department, who had gone to Ukhrul to join the Christmas celebration at his second wife’s residence was found buried at a jungle stretch in Ukhrul after he was allegedly murdered.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Laishram Ibohalbi Singh, 55, son of L Chandrababu Singh, a resident of Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai. He was working in the reserve line of Imphal East district police and was presently attached with the Chingmeirong police outpost. He married a Tangkhul woman from Chonka village as his second wife.
He has gone to visit his wife at Ukhrul on December 24 last and left for Imphal on December 29 last. After he left his second wife’s residence, he didn’t come to Imphal and neither returned back to his second wife’s residence in Ukhrul.
His second wife filed a missing report with Sangsak police station today afternoon at 1 pm and she, along with her family members and the villagers launched a manhunt and while searching the jungle, found Ibohalbi’s body buried in the ground.
The exact place where his dead body was found is at a jungle stretch which is beyond Finch Corner, a place which is 6 km away from Sangsak police station. The police was informed after the villagers found the body. Police came and pick up the dead body which will be brought to JNIMS for a post mortem tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary (Minor Irrigation, Information & Public relations) Keisham Meghachandra Singh, who is also the MLA from Wangkhem Assembly Constituency, speaking to IFP said that the L Ibohalbi Singh was allegedly murdered by unknown persons, who were present at the time when he was coming back to Imphal after attending the Christmas celebrations.
He said that after attending the Christmas celebration, the deceased was returning to Imphal on a scooter saying he had a wedding to attend. Upon reaching Finch Corner, unidentified persons burnt down his scooter and he was beaten to death and later buried in the jungle, Meghachandra alleged.
He further said that after hearing the news, Ibohalbi`s family members, local club and meira paibi came to him, but as it was getting late he sent them away saying the matter would be discussed later.
However, he has informed the Chief Minister as well as the Deputy Chief Minister regarding the incident. Further course of action will be taken up after consulting with the deceased’s family and people concerned, he added.
