    IMPHAL, January 23: A PIB Defence Wing press release has said that an Improvised Explosive Device was recovered from under a culvert on the National Highway-2 near Sunusiphai. Meanwhile, a source has added that the IED was found planted in a school bag inside a bush along the road connecting Naramseina and Shunushiphai. The source maintained that the IED was found by a Road Opening Party, ROP of the 5/9 Grenadier around 7am. Soon after receiving news about the recovery of the IED, a Bomb Disposal squad from Imphal rushed to the spot and exploded it safely at the same place.

    Meanwhile, according to the PIB press release, the entire area was cordoned off and vehicle traffic was diverted.  The Army IED team was immediately rushed in from Leimakhong which destroyed the IED in situ at around 1130hr on 23 Jan 13 without any collateral damage, it claimed.
