IMPHAL, January 30: Phukan, Deputy General Manager (DGM), Indian Oil Corporation IOC inspected the condition and current position of oil, which has been affected by the public blockade called by the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) from 5 p.m. of January 24 to 7:30 pm of January 29 in Kuki inhabited areas.
According to information available with IFP, IOC’s DGM Phukan came down to Imphal from Assam today.
As soon as he arrived here, meetings at various levels attended by top officials and IOC officials of the state along with him were held.
It was minutely discussed during the meeting how oil brought in by tankers of various oil companies like NRL, Bharat Petroleum, ESSAR and so on under Indian Oil Corporation should be made available to the general public according to a source.
It may be mentioned that besides the safe arrival of 99 petrol and diesel loaded trucks yesterday, 28 oil tankers have arrived today .
Out of the 28 oil tankers, 8 are petrol tankers, while the remaining 20 are diesel tankers. The arrival of 28 trucks besides 99 loaded oil tankers has posed inconveniences to Inter-state Bus terminus (ISTB) as all of vehicles are being parked there besides causing difficulties to drivers and handymen of the loaded trucks who have been looking after their vehicles.
However with the arrival of Phukan at Imphal today, IOC , Manipur has started supplying petrol and diesel to oil pumps as usual from today evening and the problems being faced by drivers and handymen have lessened.
On the other hand, though 28 loaded oil tankers arrived today, a diesel tanker could not arrive at Imphal as it broke down at Lairou along the Imphal-Dimapur road, sources said.
The source added that oil tankers which left Imphal along the Imphal-Jiribam road and reached Ramnagar, Silchar would return to Imphal as they have been loaded with oil now.
