JIRIBAM, January 25: W Dinesh Meetei Co-convenor of JDDC ( Jiribam District Demand Committee) has lamented the stalemate in the process to upgrade Jiribam Sub-division into a revenue district. It may be mentioned that on November 9, 2011; 11 representatives of JDDC along with others from AMUCO and UCM had met the Chief Minister leading to the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The memorandum had included stipulations that the Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) would be given the charge of SP, that the Additional Deputy Commissioner would be given the charge of a DC, upgrading of the Jiri College and including Science stream and upgrading the Borobekara High School to the level of a secondary school. Civil society groups in Jiri sub division had earlier taken up various public protests decrying the lack of development, following which promises had been made that administrative offices in the sub division would be upgraded and other office infrastructures built.
Apart from this, even though invitation cards had been sent out for the inaugural of the Jiri Super Market near the Teacher Colony; the PWD Guest House at Bapupara Ward no 5; the ITI office at Kadamtala; the Mini Secretariat office at Chingdong Leikai and the Sports Complex in December 2011 the buildings are lying without being inaugurated according to Dinesh. The inaugural had been postponed owing to the election code of conduct but even after the elections have been declared, there was no move for the said buildings to be inaugurated and utilized. Saying that such an action only reflects the lack of interest for working for the development of the people of Jiribam, Dinesh further appealed for the concerned authority to look into the matter and take up appropriate action.
