CCPUR, January 27: The 64th Republic Day Celebration was also observed at Churachandpur amidst the bandh threat by the KSDC who had gone as far as threatening to burn the Indian flag to severe its tie with the Indian union.
The bandh had little impact in CCPur town proper. With the UPF, a parent body as stated by the KSDC, disowning the KSDC action, the very ability of the KSDC to impose a bandh had been questioned by many.
Meanwhile, addressing the Republic Day celebration, Deputy Commissioner Lazarus wished the people and in her capacity as the chief guest thanked the multitude of students who had stood by her.
Emphasizing on the power of unity, she further highlighted on the steps undertaken by the district administration including the two skill training centers to achieve economic livelihood skills. Lazarus also said that 45 days of wages had been provided to job card holders under MGNREGA, and that there is a plan for maximum delivery of various welfare schemes.
The DC also asked the teacher community not to employ a substitution teacher which, she said, will be dealt with strictly.
The program was followed by a cultural and entertainment program which included an imitation section of the news maker of yesteryears and a martial art show by the district`s well known Kungfu Master, Singkhanthang.
