IMPHAL, Jan 12: A Joint inspection team lead by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar and comprising of Ram Muivah, Principal Secretary Works, PWD engineers and NHPC officials visited the sites for the proposed barrage construction of Loktak downstream project over Leimatak river at Toushang under Tamenglong district and the cutting of a 36 kilometer long stretch Tupul to Toushang road.
Speaking to media person at the site, the Works minister said that 90% of the process for widening the Tupul-Toushang road has been completed and that the total completion is being targeted to finish at the earliest. He added, ” The work for the drainage is still pending but strict instructions have been given to the engineer concerned to finish the work taken up on the road.”
The formation of the road was staeted from May 2011 after a work order was passed in March of the same year for the 36 kilometres long road. He further said that one suspension bridge will be built on the Leimatak river and all the materials required are already in place at Thangal Village for the said construction. Kh Ratankumar further said, “A two phase road construction of a 32 km long road from Toushang to Irang will be taken up in the next financial year under the Special Package Scheme (SPA) by the PWD department which will help the NHPC in its work progress for the construction of Lotak downstream project.”
Additional Engineer NHPC and Chief Excutive Officer of the Loktak Downstream Project, Ranjan Mitra said that the Construction work of Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric project which has a capacity of 66 MW electricity will start from 2014 as the road condition has been improved, thereby facilitating easy material transportation for the construction.
