MMTA adventure training program

IMPHAL, January 3: The Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) under the NYPAD Scheme of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of India is organizing 7 day outdoor education on adventure and youth leadership training program at the Manipur Mountaineering Institute (MMI) in Lamdan from January 2-8, 2013.

The inaugural function of the training program was held today at the MMI Complex, Lamdan with Parliamentary Secretary Md Amin Shaha as chief guest; Vice-Chairperson of NYKS, Ministry of YAS, Government of India L. Tilotama as President; H Piteshori Devi, Member of Manipur State Commission as guest of honour; and N Ibungochoubi, former President of MMTA and current president of MMTA Dr L Surjit Singh as presidium members.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr L Surjit Singh said the main objective of conducting the training programme is to encourage the taste of adventure to the youths of North East.

The 7 day program includes leadership training, disaster management and patience training. Another training program will be started from January 29, 2013 for which, the government of India will bear all expenses, he added while urging parents and guardians to send their children to the program.

“There are well trained instructors on our site and there is dearth of equipments in the MMI. The only thing lacking is the financial assistance. We will also urge the Government to convert this institute into a Regional Institute of Adventure Sports,” said L. Surjit.

There will be 50 participants in every batch and while the aim was to have participants from 4 states, only those from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh could be accommodated, he continued.

During the function Md Amin Shaha said life is full of adventure and appreciated the training program for young people. He also added that solar lamps will be provided for the convenience of the campers.
