Moreh shut down following blast at HTC president`s residence

MOREH, January 14: Following a grenade explosion at the residence of Jangmang Haoikip, President of the Hill Tribal Council (HTC) at Moreh Ward no 3, the council has called a 12 hour bandh in the border town and along the NH 39 starting from 6 pm this evening. The border has also been indefinitely shut down.

Unidentified persons had lobbed the bomb which exploded at 12:05 pm. The explosion occurred around 12:15pm while the HTC president was at his office. The explosion which occurred near Jangmang Haokip’s 90 year old ailing mother’s room however failed to inflict any casualties.

Soon after the explosion, a team of Moreh police, commandos and 9 Assam Rifles rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation.

However there has been no report of any arrest till the filing of this report.

The council also convened a meeting of its members which resolved to call a bandh in the border town and along the NH 39 from 6pm this evening to 6am tomorrow.

The meeting further resolved to close the border indefinitely.

The general public of the border town led by several community leaders also took out a protest rally today and submitted a memorandum to the ADC and the Moreh Police SDPO. During the rally, participants shouted slogans against the bomb attack. Several women’s organization also took part in the rally.
