Moreh shut down lifted

MOREH, January 16: The indefinite shut down of the international border at Moreh imposed by civil organizations following an attack on the residence of its President Jangmang Haokip has been lifted after government representatives assured to take up the demands of the protestors with the concerned authorities.

The govt authorities including the Tengnoupal MLA D Korungthang, ADC Chandel Chairman Lhukhosei Zou and the Chandel DC Th Chittaranjan Singh and Chandel SP, E Priyokumar had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the community leaders including M Thoiba Meitei of MCM, H Mate of HTC, KBS Maniam of Tamil Sangam, Md Jainul Abuddin of MMCM and M Ranjit Singh of ACODOM.

According to the MoU, the authorities have assured to look in the demands of the community leaders. The demands made include the call for immediate necessary arrangement to be made to arrest the criminals involved in the bomb attack by the Myanmar authority and handing them over to the Indian authority at the earliest, sanitize the Indian criminals operating from Myanmar particularly from townships such as Namphalong and Tamu by way of joint efforts of India and Myanmar governments.

The demand also include that until and unless the Myanmar authority is able to give assurance that no criminal or organization operating from their land shall harm or commit crime on innocent public in Moreh, the Indo-Myanmar border along Moreh should be completely sealed with immediate effect.
