IMPHAL, Jan 8:  The Manipur Peoples’ Party in a statement has stated that “Of late, Manipur has been witnessing developments which are communal and medieval in nature in the form of community based nationalism such as Alternative Arrangement etc.”

It went on to add that “the most unfortunate part of the story is the present Manipur govt, which has been in power for more than a decade remains mute when it should talk and act”.

Saying that MPP would place on record that certain policies of the govt of India in dealing with the various insurgent groups of the region have sent out signals that encourages communal activities of certain groups, besides encouraging hill-valley divide, it further said, “The case of NSCN (IM) which is in talks with the government of India is one glaring example.”

Expressing its strong reservation over the manner of dealing by the govt of India  with the militant group, it appealed to all civil society organizations of the region who are active in and out of Manipur not to issue any public statement that would vitiate the socio-political atmosphere of the region and Manipur in particular, which is already in ill health.
