KANGPOKPI, Jan 28: The 2nd Cultural Meet of Northern Area Kuki Sports Association Manipur (NAKSAM) was held yesterday at Sadar Hills Changoubung Village with Nemcha Kipgen, MLA 50-Kangpokpi AC as chief guest of the meet.
Paojalet Touthang, vice chairman, SHADC, Kangpokpi and Chungkam Haokip, president Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Manipur attended the cultural meet as guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Paokai Chongloi, president NAKSAM while addressing the objectives of NAKSAM in his speech said that, to promote and encourage the spirit of unity, peace and harmony through games and sports in the area the NAKSAM will organize a football tournament annually.
NAKSAM also gave Meritorious Awards to students who secured 60 per cent above in HSLC and above examinations in the state to encourage the youths of the areas in the field of education, added Paokai Chongloi.
He further said that, a devotional service was also organized in the evening season of the month long tournament to encourage the participants in the field of religion while NAKSAM Idol was also organized to identify young talented singers and encourage the youths of the areas in the field of music.
Nemcha Kipgen, MLA in her speech as chief guest expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the organizing committee for organizing such a well organized and thrilling cultural meet to promote the cultural identity of the Kuki community in particular and all community residing the areas in general.
The MLA also urged and encouraged the cultural troupe of the respective village to promote, modify and upgrade the cultural dance to the international level.
She also drew the attention of State Government and the concerned ministry to acknowledge and promote the important, unique and beautiful cultural identity of Kuki community in particular and all communities residing in the hill district of Manipur in general. Many cultural troupes from different village in the area participated in the Cultural Meet and Cultural dance competition.
A group SUHTA-DANCE (Bamboo Dance) by the cultural troupes who participated in the Cultural Dance Competition was the main attraction of the Meet.
