IMPHAL, January 27: In the midst of Chakan Ganh Nagai yesterday, the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter of Manipur Rani Gaidinliu is also being observed. Chakan Ganh Ngai 2013 and Rani Gaidinliu 98thBirth Anniversary was observed yesterday at Ramgailong- Laimanai, Imphal.
The celebration was jointly organized by the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU), Zeliangrong Student Union Manipur (ZSUM), Zeliagrong Students’ Union (ZSU), Imphal Area and Chakan-Ganh-Ngai 2013 and the Rani Gaidinliu 98thBirth Anniversary Celebration Committee.
The celebration was attended by advisor DESAM Santosh; VP DESAM Angouba; former president Koireng Students’ Union Boipu; president Unpui Students’ Union James Nga; Editor Huiyen Lanpao Siva Dutta Luwang; gen sec AMADA Phonee; former spokeperson ATSUM Joseph Hmar; president AZSU Pamei John; former president AZSU Akham Gonmei; dy director CORE Dr Virte; chairman ZSUM D Stephen; president KSA Premananda; Khunbu Ramgailong Village Asing Kamei; KSA advisor Rajesh, social activist Jiten Yumnam.
It may be mentioned that Rani Gaidinliu who was born on January 26, 1915 at Longkao village of Tamenglong district, Manipur.
From her early tender age she started visiting places which inspired the zeal of revoluting against the then British colonialism.
She joined the freedom movement from the age of 13 and led a socio political movement to drive out the British.
She served in different jails for 14 years and was confined at Guwahati, Shillong, Auzawl and Tura jails.
Later, she was released in 1947 after India got its Independence and continued to work for the upliftment of the people.
She died on February 17th 1993 at her native place at Longkao Village.
Speakers at the function today talked about peace and unity among different communities living in the state.
The function concluded with traditional dances.
