IMPHAL, January 22: Four locals of Phumlou Gram Panchayat called a press conference alleging that a person identifying himself as a KYKL cadre has been threatening them regarding their complains to the Imphal West Chief Judicial Magistrate about a member of the GP Ward No 2 withdrawing MGNREGS wages without their knowledge.
Speaking to media persons today at the Macha Leima office, the four identified themselves as Konjengbam Memi, Konjengbam Premchand, Sagolsem Tamubi and Naorem Thoibi. They claimed that the ward member, whom they identified as Chanabam Ibocha, had withdrawn their MGNREGS wages by preparing job cards in their names.
They further claimed that coming to know about the withdrawal, they had filed a case with the CJM IW. “However, just two days before the hearing for the case was to start, we started receiving phone calls from a person identifying himself as a KYKL cadre and threatening us to withdraw the case,” said an activist.
On January 10, an unidentified person came to Naorem Thoibi’s residence on a Honda Activa and after identifying himself as a KYKL cadre left a letter in which there was a bullet, the four echoed.
The letter threatened that they should withdraw their case at the earliest as the KYKL has already taken up the issue and in case of their failure to comply with the decree, then they should take responsibility for all untoward incidents.
Meanwhile, Macha Leima RTI Apunba Nupi Lup Assistant Co-ordinator Potshangbam Geeta while condemning the incident appealed not to repeat such actions in the future.
