IMPHAL, January 11: Hunger striker Irom Sharmila, who is under judicial custody as an under trial prisoner, has been summoned to appear before the Patiala House Court again.

According to an official source, the summon received by the Imphal Central Jail Superintendent has asked Sharmila to appear before the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate-06 in Patiala House Court on the coming March 4 without fail.

The reason for asking her appearance is because of her hunger strike protest that she staged in front of Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 5, 2006 demanding repeal of AFSPA from the state. Subsequently, on the 2nd day of her demonstration, she had been arrested by Delhi police and was produced before the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate-06 at Patiala House Court. She was asked to appear before the court in regard to the case registered by Delhi police against her.

It may be mentioned here that on October 17 last, a summon was sent to Sharmila asking her physical appearance before the Patiala House Court. However, due to the state government’s failure to sanction the money for her travel on time, she had failed to appear before the Court. An appeal was made to fix a later date for her appearance before the Court. The source further said that this time the state government has already sanctioned the amount needed to take her to the Court and she will surly make it to the Court.
