IMPHAL, February 23: A joint student body of the Kuki Student Union and Naga Student Union, Chandel has charged that the state government has failed to meet the earlier demands of four apex civil organizations: Chandel District Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Naga Chiefs’ Association, Naga Students’ Union Chandel and Kuki Students’ Organization, Chandel to transfer the EEof DRDA Chandel, L Saratchandra Singh.
Addressing a press meet, Sunny Shankhil, the president of the Naga Students’ Union said that the said EE L Sarachandra runs office from his residence and charged that he uses abusive language and renders physical discrimination to the locals.
He further alleged that the EE creates groupism and favouritism among the beneficiaries and technical staffs creating delay in developmental works of the district and further charged that the said official deduces 10 to 15 percent from most of the beneficiaries of central sponsored schemes like BRGF, BADP, MOBC.
In this regard the body had earlier submitted a memorandum to the state CM, Minister RD&PR, MLA 41/Cdl, MLA 42/Cdl, Chairman ADC/DRDA Chandel, Chief Secretary, Addl. Chief Secretary RD and Deputy Commissioner Chandel to transfer the said official from the Chandel district.
It may be mentioned that a bandh was also called last year from Nov 5 to 7 2012 to press for the removal of the officer.
The joint student body announced today to take up further agitations if their demands are not met. Calling for a 48 hr general strike from 1st March, 2013 to 5am 3rd March, the announcement added further that if the demands are not met within 3rd March, the joint body with support from the public of Chandel district will begin an indefinite economic blockade on National Highway 39. Representatives of the two student bodies added that the general strike will not affect the students appearing for their 10th exam, fixed program events, religious ceremonies and medical services.
Thangjalet Mate, President KSO, Chandel further said that during an inspection in the schools in its jurisdiction, it was found that about 80% of the teachers were being substituted. He further said that a meeting was held with regard to the issue ar H-Kotlenphai Community Hall where it was resolved to pass notices to such teachers to return to their designated schools. He further said that the student union will conduct an investigation from the beginning of March 2013 and added that if any teachers are found to be substituted, then appropriate action will be action.
The joint student bodies further appealed not ti use unfair means in the upcoming Board exams and further appealed to the parents and guardians to bring quality education in Chandel district.
