IMPHAL, February 19: An elderly woman who was being treated at the Regional Institute of Sciences, RIMS for injuries sustained during an accident, succumbed to injuries this early morning.
The woman identified as Ningombam (o) Sakhi (71_ wife of (L) Naran of Khongman Okram Chuthek met with a road accident while coming back to Imphal riding pillion on her grandson’s Bajaj Super scooter. The two were returning from Wangjing after attending a religious ritual.
Sources informed that the diesel auto after overtaking the scooter driven by the woman’s grandson N David stopped abruptly just ahead of the scooter to pick up passengers in front of the Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Office gate.
She was rushed to the nearby Thoubal district hospital and later shifted to the Shija Hospital Langol and after that she was referred to the RIMS hospital where she succumbed to her injury at around 3am this morning.
Meanwhile, Thoubal police have registered a case regarding the incident and taken the diesel auto into custody. The dead body was later handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted.
