IMPHAL, February 24: In a shocking incident, a husband stabbed his wife today at 5 am at Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai under Nambol Police Station in Imphal West district.
Patsoi police have arrested the accused and recovered the weapon used in the crime.
The incident happened this morning when the victim, Ingudum (n) Yendrembam (o) Sumati (45) wife of Y Ibotombi of Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai, a vegetable vendor was preparing to leave. Following an argument between the couple, the husband took out a kitchen knife and stabbed her on her right chest, informed police sources.
Following the incident, Sumati was rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences where she succumbed to her injuries.
On hearing about the incident, relatives and supporters rushed to her house but a Nambol Police team led by OC Premchand intervened and blocked any untoward incident from happening.
Meanwhile, family members from her parental side believe the involvement of other family members of the husband in the case as the house was deserted when they arrived.
The body has been kept at the RIMS mortuary for post mortem. Patsoi police have filed a case over the incident.
