IMPHAL, February 5: A mock drill conducted by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at its depot at Chingmeirong today at around 4:30 pm has caught the attention of many passersby after fire service and police personnel surrounded the area thinking it for a real fire due to lack of communication.
According to information received by IFP, IOC conducts such a mock drill once every year as a security measure to train oil tanker drivers and handyman, depot staffs and others in fire management.
The IOC officials used to informed police and fire service before conducting such mock drills in previous years, but failed to inform for this time, said a source.
The IOC Assam deputy general manager (Technical) was incidentally present during the mock drill today.
The fire service team and the police personnel later returned to their respective places after they were informed by the IOC officials that it was only a mock drill.
Meanwhile, oil tankers loaded with diesel (17), petrol (7) and SK oil (7) reached Imphal today safely.
